What Happened to dB-Soft?

There’s a very good chance you never heard of these guys. They were founded in 1980 and, while operational, were worth well over 10 million dollars.

So what makes them obscure to us? They were based out of Japan! Specifically, they were located in Sapporo (on Hokkaido island.) I mean, that’s out in the boonies even by Japanese standards. Worse still, none of their games ever made it to our shores.

How could they? Many of their titles were exclusive to the MSX. That’s kind of a deal breaker on our continent. It’s a shame too, because they have a few gems in their body of work.

Fun Fact: dB-Soft stands for Decibel Software. In true Japanese naming fashion, they never made a program that dealt with audio.

To be fair, dB-Soft was never about games. They were more interested in making and supporting office software. Yet someone in the building obviously wanted a change of pace.
